Here’s a video of President Reagan explaining conservative values. And then I will give my take.
What makes a conservative a conservative? Well that question is as easy to answer as it is hard to answer. There are certain principals that are undeniably “conservative principals”.
I will list them:
1. Government is an entity that gets in the way of citizens; not help.
2. Taxes should only serve to maintain a military, keep good public interior (i.e. roads, parks etc…), maintain law enforcement and support national security.
3. The people should decide what government is allowed to do; not the other way around.
4. The Constitution is a timeless document and not a living document (i.e. changes with current events).
When other issues that the media has coined as “conservative” like pro-life and anti gay marriage are brought up, it generalizes a diverse group. Those four principals are four that 99% of conservatives can agree on. Other issues like pro-life vs. pro-choice and gay marriage are social issues and not government issues, which shows that being a conservative is simply a word to describes someone’s opinion on size of government.
My next blog post is going to be about the 3 major political creeds in American politics: liberalism, conservatism and progressivism.

#1 should be more like “government is like a kid in a candy store, it cannot be left unattended, never turn your back on it, and always always enforce limits on it!” great list though!

Glen Beck has less than a junior high school grasp of history and world affairs, a complete lack of honesty and integrity, and a total disregard for the intelligence of his audience. His presentation is full of unfounded conspiracy theories and when he is caught in a lie, which he often is, he just switches from being a “reporter” or “political commentator” to being an “entertainer.”
